About leukemia and lymphoma
These cancers happen when normal cells start growing out of control:
- Leukemia affects the white blood cells that are often found inside your bones (bone marrow).
- Lymphoma begins in lymphocytes, which are cells that help clear the body of infections.
Common symptoms of leukemia and lymphoma include:
- Bone pain
- Bruising easily
- Frequent infections
- Red spots on your skin
- Sweating more than usual, especially at night
- Swelling in the vessels within the body tissue that help you get rid of infections (lymph nodes)
- Tiredness or fatigue

Treatments for leukemia and lymphoma at Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute
At the Cancer Institute, you have access to a broad range of treatment options, including:
Chemotherapy
This treatment uses one or more drugs that interfere with the cancer cell's ability to grow or reproduce. We offer newly approved chemotherapy drugs as well as options that are only available through clinical trials. Find out more about chemotherapy.
Targeted therapy
We give you cancer drugs that interfere with molecules within the cancer cells, halting their growth. Targeted therapy is similar to chemotherapy, but often with fewer side effects. Get more information about targeted therapy.
Radiation therapy
For lymphoma, we may break up cancer cells using radiation therapy. This treatment uses beams of energy to prevent cancer from growing. We offer all the latest radiation therapy technologies. Learn more about radiation therapy.
Immunotherapy
This promising new treatment works by “training” your body’s immune system to recognize cancer cells and get rid of them – much in the same way your body helps you recover from a cold. Read more about immunotherapy.
