The three-year dermatology program at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) offers broad experience in dermatology including:

  • Medical dermatology
  • Dermatologic surgery
  • Dermatopathology
  • Cutaneous oncology including Mohs surgery
  • Inpatient dermatology
  • Pediatric dermatology
  • Cosmetic dermatology
  • Teledermatology
  • Dermatologic therapies (biologics, immunosuppressants, light therapy, lasers)

As a dermatology resident at LVHN, you will see a wide variety of patients and conditions in both outpatient and inpatient settings. LVHN hosts Pennsylvania’s largest and busiest burn unit providing care not seen at other regional centers. At Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest and Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital, our main inpatient locations, you’ll find resident workspaces and multiple dining options. Additional inpatient exposure includes working with multiple inpatient dermatopathologists on-site. Our outpatient office houses a private resident room with individual workstations and computers, in-house dermatopathology and Mohs lab, seven-headed microscope, comprehensive phototherapy unit, multiple lasers and the Valley Med Spa.

On-call responsibilities include virtual and in-person consults at LVH–Cedar Crest, LVH–17th Street and Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital, and virtual consults at LVH–Muhlenberg, LVH–Cedar Crest and LVH–17th Street. Additionally, you will gain experience by taking outpatient phone calls from our private offices. All inpatient responsibilities are within a 20-minute radius.

You will have the opportunity to complete elective rotations nationally and internationally. You will rotate with pediatric dermatologists at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center during PGY3. You will also work with dermatopathologists at the Institute for Dermatopathology. Some past electives our residents have pursued include an out-of-state laser-specific month supported by an ASLMS scholarship, a pediatric dermatology elective at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia funded by a Society of Pediatric Dermatology grant, and abroad electives in Vietnam and India. We participate in academic conferences and grand rounds with Philadelphia Dermatologic Society, and participate in grand rounds (Duhring Conference) at the University of Pennsylvania biweekly.

Our residents have successfully matched into fellowships including Mohs surgery and dermatologic oncology and dermatopathology.

Our residents have a board pass rate of 100 percent.

We are a program of well-trained, thoughtful and empathetic dermatologists who are prepared to treat all aspects of dermatology with confidence. We are committed to our patients and dedicated to an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion. We are trained holistically, allowing us to provide the best of care to our patients, contribute to literature, and support one another in our career of lifelong learning.
