At the Institute for Surgical Excellence, we are committed to exceeding your care expectations at every point in the surgery process.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll find convenient parking and friendly faces at check-in. Your care team is here to address any questions you may have, while our comprehensive safety measures effectively minimize risk and maximize your results.

What to expect when you arrive for surgery

Here’s a general overview of what you can expect when you arrive for your surgery:

Convenient, compassionate check-in

When you arrive to the hospital, our friendly front-desk receptionists will check you in. A member of your care team will escort you from there.

Your surgery team is dedicated to your comfort and safety. We welcome any questions or concerns you have, at any point during your care.

Visitor waiting area

Your family and friends are welcome to stay in our waiting area during your surgery. As this area is small, we ask that only two or three people visit you at one time.

Surgery preparation

As your care team readies you for surgery, you will be handed a hospital gown and slippers to change into.

You’ll be asked to use the bathroom right before surgery. Women who have had a menstrual period within the last year may be asked to give a urine sample shortly before your procedure, to test for pregnancy.

If you have trouble hearing, please let your surgery team know. They will make sure you understand all instructions and anything else you need to know regarding your care.

Comprehensive infection control

To prevent germs that could cause infection, your surgical team will wear special clothing and scrub their hands and arms before entering the operating room. Our operating rooms have an advanced filter system to keep the air clean.

A member of your care team will ask you to use antibacterial wipes to clean your entire body, which also minimizes infection risk.

Abundant safety measures

We take extensive measures to ensure your safety throughout the surgery process.

Your surgical team will ask you multiple times to confirm your name and birth date. This is for your safety and ensures that the medication and tests you receive before surgery are correct.

A member of your care team will ask you to point to the part of your body that will be operated on. This will ensure that the surgical site is correct. Your surgeon will then mark the area with a washable pen or give you a bracelet to wear.
