Located in northeastern Pennsylvania, Carbon County boasts charming towns and mountainous landscape.
Overview
Carbon County lies in the heart of Pennsylvania’s coal region. The eastern and northeastern sections of the county are considered part of the Pocono Mountains. The county includes the historic town of Jim Thorpe, known as the “Switzerland of America,” as well as dozens of towns and boroughs. Carbon County is home to 65,000 residents and is the future site of Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Carbon, a new health campus slated to open in 2022.
LVHN ExpressCARE–Palmerton provides convenient, no-appointment access to care for residents in Carbon County. Some residents in the northern regions of Carbon County may also utilize LVH–Hazleton for their health care needs. Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG) has several locations in Carbon County including Lehighton, Weatherly and Albrightsville.

Mauch Chunk Opera House, Mauch Chunk Historical Society & Museum and various arts galleries and museums offer entertainment for residents and visitors alike. Penn’s Peak, the Lehigh Valley and Pocono Mountains premier entertainment venue, is located in historic Jim Thorpe. The entertainment venue overlooks Beltzville Lake and hosts weddings, special events and concerts throughout the year.

Attractions and Recreation
Carbon County offers plenty of opportunity for outdoor recreation. There are three state parks in Carbon County including Beltzville State Park, Lehigh Gorge State Park and Hickory Run State Park.
For white water rafting enthusiasts, White Water Challengers offers whitewater rafting packages along the Lehigh River, starting in Weatherly, Pa.
Mauch Chunk Lake Park offers swimming, camping, hiking and cross-country skiing in the winter.
