About
Philosophy of care
As a med-peds hospitalist, I partner with patients and families navigating acute health challenges. I enjoy working with nurses, social workers and other members of the hospital care team, and spending time with patients in a flexible way whenever it's needed throughout the day. I try to provide the quality of care for each patient that I would wish for my own family. I also work as a clinical ethicist, helping patients and clinicians navigate situations that involve moral complexity and difficult choices. I try to center the patient's narrative in this work, understanding that our life stories, cultures, communities and belief systems shape the landscape of our moral choices.
Why I entered medicine
In medicine, I get to channel my curiosity and attention to detail toward making a positive difference in people's lives. I also advocate for justice every day in a practical way, both at the bedside and more broadly by working to shape a system that cares equitably for all people. The best parts of medical practice are the small quiet moments of humanity that often happen when I least expect them, the opportunity to witness people's grace in navigating adversity, and learning lessons from patients that enrich my own perspective on parenting and life in general. I'm grateful to have a professional life that allows me to teach my three daughters the importance of service.
Community involvement
I serve on the SOLECO swim team board – go Stingrays!
Personal interests
When not at work, I can be found hanging out with my husband and our daughters. We enjoy playing with our dog Olive, caring for our three Nigerian dwarf goats, baking, crafting and all outdoor activities. All the kids ski, some better than their parents, so we like exploring local slopes. My other formal titles include Swim Mom, Soccer Mom and Basketball Mom.
