Philosophy of care

Because everyone has unique issues and concerns about their musculoskeletal problem, I spend time learning about what is impacting you and designing a treatment plan to accomplish your goals. I make sure you understand both the details of your condition and the treatments I propose. In this way, we can truly move forward with shared decision-making to achieve an optimal outcome. Educating the next generation of orthopedic surgeons is also a priority of mine; I am leading a team to build a new orthopedic residency training program here at LVHN.

Why I entered medicine

I still remember as a child accompanying my father (an orthopedic surgeon) on his patient rounds. I dreamed of one day helping patients return to the activities they loved just as did. I studied hard, became an EMT, volunteered at a firehouse, worked ski patrol in college and taught the winter care emergency course to my fellow patrollers. In medical school I found orthopedic surgery to be the most exciting path for me, and I have never looked back. I have found immense satisfaction over the years helping patients feel and function better, and am so gratified hearing I have changed their lives for the better.

Community involvement

As the father of two preemies (born 11 weeks early), my wife and I have supported research to investigate the causes of premature birth. We have been on the leadership team for the Philadelphia March of Dimes' annual March for Babies for several years. My daughter has started a non-profit to provide board books to families in the NICU so they can read to their children and enhance their language skills. I also have been an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Dartmouth College, for over 20 years.

Personal interests

I enjoy skiing, hiking and biking with my wife, daughter and son. I welcome any and all dad jokes and puns.
