Philosophy of care

My focus is on each individual patient.  Each person I meet has unique issues and a unique set of concerns about their musculoskeletal problem. I spend time learning about what is impacting my patients and designing a treatment plan aimed at accomplishing their goals. I like to make sure my patients understand both the details of their conditions and the treatments that I propose.  In this way, we can truly move forward with shared decision making to achieve the optimal outcome.

Education of the patient is of utmost importance, but education of the next generation of Orthopaedic surgeons is also a priority of mine. That is why I am leading a team to build a new Orthopaedic Residency training program here at LVHN.

Why I entered medicine

I still remember as a child accompanying my father (an orthopaedic surgeon) when he would round on his patients in the hospital. I was inspired and dreamed that one day I could help patients return to the activities they loved just as he was able to do. I studied hard, became an EMT, volunteered at a firehouse, worked Ski Patrol in college and taught the Winter Care Emergency course to my fellow patrollers. Once I was in medical school and had the chance to rotate on many services, I discovered Orthopaedic surgery was the most exciting path for me and I have never looked back. I have found immense satisfaction over the years helping patients feel and function better and am so gratified when patients tell me that I have changed their life for the better.

Community involvement

As the father of two preemies (born 11 weeks early), my wife and I have been involved in supporting research to investigate the causes of premature birth. We have been on the leadership team for the Philadelphia March of Dimes annual March for Babies for several years. My daughter has started a non-profit to provide board books to families in the NICU so they can read to their children and enhance their language skills. I also have been an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Dartmouth College, for over 20 years. I look forward to engaging with the Lehigh Valley Community as I shift my practice to this area.

Personal interests

I enjoy skiing, hiking, and biking with my wife Jessica, my daughter Hannah, and my son Nate. I welcome any and all dad jokes and puns.
