About

Philosophy of care

Medicine, whether routine care or an unexpected event requiring acute intervention, requires communication between a patient and physician. My philosophy is one in which my patients are fully informed of all of the possible options (testing, results, interventions, outcomes) from the very beginning so they can contribute to the decisions we make together regarding their care. Well informed patient input is necessary to treat the whole patient and not just the problem at hand.

Why I entered medicine

Obstetrics and gynecology allows me to combine two facets of medicine -- acute and sometimes high-risk care as well as ongoing, routine visits. I enjoy getting to know my patients over time and caring for them and their unborn children during the exciting time of pregnancy. The delivery culminates in an emotional event that I am proud to share with my patients. Gynecology is the ongoing care of women. Over time a trust develops between a patient and physician, which is important to help guide patients through changes in their life cycle. I respect these relationships with my patients and enjoy hearing the updates patients provide about themselves at their yearly exam. Solo practice allows me to get to know my patients very well. This enforces these relationships and is a large part of what makes medicine so satisfying to me.

Community involvement

Being a solo ob/gyn and being available for my patients every day and night does not allow much time for outside commitments. My life can be quite unpredictable. I am, however, active in my church and have been involved with my son's school projects, trips and fundraisers.

Personal interests

I enjoy reading, antiquing, needlework projects and gardening. Re-connecting with friends is also very satisfying to me. However, a simple, unhurried meal with my family is one of my favorite ways to spend an evening.
