About
Philosophy of care
My philosophy in treating patients is to put myself in their shoes. Often, in health care, we see people and families at their worst - sick, angry, upset, grieving. I always try to empathize. I truly believe in treating others as I would like to be treated. The smallest gestures can mean the most, especially in this type of work - an extra minute explaining or comforting, a warm blanket, an update on lab tests. The most important aspect of medicine, despite all of the technology, is still the "human" aspect. I try to give that to my patients.
Why I entered medicine
I was a registered nurse first but had an ongoing medical curiosity. I wanted to be involved in all aspects of patient care, including diagnostic activities as well as still using my clinical skills from nursing. I believe that being a nurse first, then a physician assistant, has given me the best of both worlds - medicine and nursing, knowledge and hands-on patient care.
Personal interests
I have three young children, so I don't have much spare time!
