About

Philosophy of care

The foundation of my approach is establishing a trusting relationship based upon mutual respect and regard. I enjoy learning about my patients' lives, what motivates them, what pleases them and what challenges them. I work to create a warm, open environment where my patients can feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings. I aim to align health care goals with their personal goals and assist patients in navigating their way to and maintaining their health. I place a heavy emphasis on explaining and educating patients regarding diagnoses, diagnostic testing and plans of care. I believe knowledge empowers us all to pursue our best, healthiest life.

Why I entered medicine

My interest in medicine began when I received a toy stethoscope as a child. Although I remained fascinated by science throughout my college years, I doubted my ability to succeed in the medical field and chose a different career path. That path led me to the other side of the world, as I accepted a position as an English instructor in South Korea. After two years abroad, I returned stateside with renewed confidence and an overwhelming determination to pursue a career in medicine. That was almost 30 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

Community involvement

I am a lover of creatures big and small and have a strong interest in animal welfare. I support various groups in my area.

Personal interests

I treasure time with my partner in life, James, our two cats and little dog. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, running and kayaking. I piddle around in our garden when I can. I love to cook. I enjoy traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. I never turn down a festival. I enjoy reading when I have time. During winter months, I look forward to the occasional slow, cozy morning with a hot cup of coffee and a good book and in warmer months, I like to swing in our hammock. On any given afternoon I can be found taking Drake, my Brussels Griffon, for leisurely walks.
