About

Why I entered medicine

While attending college at St. John's University in rural central Minnesota, I obtained my emergency medicine technician (EMT) basic license. The university needed on-site trained EMTs because the nearest ER was at least 30 to 45 minutes away. Enjoying the EMS side of emergency medicine, I figured I would apply for an ER technician job. I worked in a Level I Trauma Center in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, for a year, while applying for medical school. Throughout my medical school rotations, I always was eager to get back to ER rotations. I was attracted to the anticipation of a new and different day each and every day, as well as the vast and ever-expanding knowledge required to practice emergency medicine.

Community involvement

I volunteered several years for the St. John's University EMT squad.

Personal interests

I enjoy alpine skiing/freeskiing, waterskiing, running, hiking, golfing and fishing. I also enjoy traveling - I've been to all 50 states and am always on the lookout for my next adventure.
