About

Philosophy of care

My philosophy has developed from years of working as a nurse prior to becoming a certified registered nurse practitioner. I am trained to look at the whole person and develop a plan of care encompassing their physical, emotional and social factors. In my experience, when care is not patient-focused, it has little impact in an outpatient setting. Effective communication with patients is one of the most important pieces of their care because it empowers them to participate actively in their healing process.

Why I entered medicine

I lost my mother to congestive heart failure. Throughout her disease process, I watched her doctors and nurses brighten her days. Through all of her re-admissions and struggles at home, she required a lot of medication and monitoring, but it was the personal interaction with her caregivers that gave her the energy to keep going. She looked forward to speaking with them, laughing with them and hearing about their lives. It inspired me to do the same for someone else and showed me that simply being present for a few moments can make all the difference for patients.

Personal interests

I spend free time hiking, gardening and wrangling two toddlers!
