About

Philosophy of care

I believe the practice of medicine is not only a science but also an art form. The best physicians practice evidence-based medicine but also demonstrate genuine empathy and a deep concern for each patient's personal values and goals of care at the bedside. As Sir William Osler said, "Care more particularly for the individual patient than for the special features of the disease."

Why I entered medicine

I was inspired to pursue medicine because of my best friend, who lives with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. I saw how modern medicine helped maintain his quality of life in the face of a daunting chronic, progressive disease, and I decided I wanted to spend my life helping others like him.

Community involvement

I have a personal interest in causes that support children's literacy, societal concern for nature and the environment, and destigmatizing mental health and addiction issues.

Personal interests

I am an avid outdoorsman with a great deal of experience with hiking and climbing, especially in the Rocky Mountains. I'm also an amateur hobby photographer with an interest in wildlife photography, landscape photography and astrophotography. I love reading and writing and have a strong interest in the classics, poetry and military history. I am a dedicated father and husband, and my family is the joy of my life.
