About

Philosophy of care

Having a baby is a time of great excitement and much emotion, a time that will never be forgotten. The personal touch, respect, and kindness can make this joyful experience that much better. I strive to treat each patient as I would want to be treated. Every woman deserves safe, satisfying, personalized care. I focus on the whole person and strive to deliver holistic, evidence-based care where the woman is the center and intimately involved in decision-making.

Why I entered medicine

At the age of 12, I witnessed birth for the first time and was fascinated with the amazing miracle—the first breath and the instant bond between mother baby. Supporting women during this most sensitive time in life became a reality for me in 1996 when I started my career as a Certified Nurse-Midwife. Over the years, I have noticed the wonder of birth has never gotten old. It continues to amaze me.

Community involvement

I’m actively involved with mission initiatives at church. There have been many opportunities to travel with my husband and participate in team ministry. He does the preaching and I share music either playing the piano or organ, singing, or playing the flute. When traveling, there have been many opportunities to visit several hospitals and meet midwives who work in various countries. I also have worked with the national organization, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) in marketing midwifery initiatives and am a current member of ACNM’s Membership and Marketing Committee.

Personal interests

Healthy living has been a lifetime goal even since a child. I love gourmet cooking and love to bake bread. I’m a long-time musician—started playing the piano at age 3 and was playing for church by age 5. I have taught piano and flute in the past. On vacations, my husband and two girls like to go to tropical areas so we can enjoy the warm water and scuba dive. I’ve been a PADI advanced diver for many years. In 2012, I was a guest on live TV, Go Healthy for Good discussing tips for a healthy pregnancy and My Story, My Song where I shared some of my own arrangement of music.
