About

Philosophy of care

Caring for patients as a nurse has helped me better understand the specific challenges often faced by individuals in being hospitalized. The hospital can sometimes seem like a frightening and intimidating place for patients and families. I would like to make this experience as comfortable as possible for you. Sometimes this means providing a warm blanket; other times it means sitting with patients and families and providing them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions. I truly listen to patients and identify ways I can help meet their needs, not only concerning their medical plan of care, but also emotionally, in their role as a member of a family, and in their functional status both within and outside of the hospital.

Why I entered medicine

Ever since an advanced biology class in high school I have had a love for the study of living things. Everything from cell division to photosynthesis fascinated me. As I continued with my education and realized the multitude of ways science is used to develop and shape medical treatments to improve the lives of individuals, I knew this was the field for me. I wanted to take the things I had learned and apply it to helping others. I am grateful for the opportunity to do this as a nurse practitioner in hospital medicine.

Community involvement

My family and I are volunteers at our church. One of the programs I enjoy serving in the most is the food pantry, helping individuals and families in need.

Personal interests

I have a large family, so am no stranger to chaos. I enjoy the “hustle and bustle” of getting everyone where they need to go, watching my kids’ sports games, going on outings with my family, running outdoors, and planting flowers. My favorite flowers are hydrangeas and black-eyed Susans. I also enjoy spending time with my two barn cats, black lab and golden retriever.
