LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Index 2024

We’re proud to be recognized as LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leaders in the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) 2024.

Seven Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) hospitals (Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar CrestLVH–MuhlenbergLVH–17th Street, LVH–Pocono, LVH–Hazleton, LVH–Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street and LVH–Schuylkill S. Jackson Street) received this designation.

Hospitals recognized as LGBTQ+ Health Care Equality Leaders demonstrate a commitment to advancing health equity for people who are part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) community.

HEI is a national benchmarking tool that evaluates health care facilities’ commitment to the equity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees. Health care facilities are evaluated based on:

  • Ensuring foundational protection for patients, visitors and staff in patient and staff policies. Hospitals must provide cultural competency training on LGBTQ+ inclusion.
  • Demonstrating progress toward inclusion of LGBTQ+ patient care and support.
  • Cultivating an inclusive workforce by providing LGBTQ+ inclusive employee support and benefits.
  • Demonstrating public commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.
