Summary

Delivers psychiatric treatment, allowing the integration of the mind and body with each person's social and environmental needs, in order to restore the patient to emotional/mental health.

Job Duties

  • Ensures patient's admission/transfer/personal belonging/ discharge are properly handled.
  • Participates in development/implementation/evaluation of patient's plan of care.
  • Assesses patient as appropriate to the ages of the population being served.
  • Identifies and reports potential problem areas regarding the therapeutic environment to the RN.
  • Identifies and reports significant changes in physical condition/behavior of patient to RN.
  • Manages emergency situations such as codes and unexpected/unusual incidents.
  • Maintains priorities as patient's condition changes.
  • Provides patient care with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree In Psychology or Sociology.
  • 1 year Experience in a clinical area and
  • 1 year of college practicum in a clinical area.
  • Knowledge of mental health counseling techniques, treatment modalities, procedures, and practices.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
