Summary
Administers patient care for all patient care activities during the care and transport of patients to the hospital. Provides safe and timely ground or helicopter transport of patients, while providing basic and critical care life support. Assists emergency health care providers to deliver care to critical patients.
Job Duties
- Transports sick and injured persons to and from treatment centers and reports the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Provides therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport (via ground or helicopter) from hospitals or accident scenes.
- Recognizes and treats illnesses and injuries according to established operating protocols.
- Functions as a primary or secondary caregiver to ensure that each patient receives treatment that is in accordance with all transport policies and procedures.
- Evaluates critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (neonatal through adult).
- Shares responsibilities to complete post transport activities such as cleaning, refueling, and restocking ambulance supplies and equipment.
- Maintains contact with transport coordinator on any problems or questions pertaining to duties and policies.
- Implements treatment plans and options for various life-threatening medical conditions.
- Reviews charts to ensure complete and consistent documentation of patient records.
- Coordinates transport related phone calls, including inter-institutional or intra-institutional calls.
- Follows network/department guidelines decontamination of work area and transport vehicle both daily and
after every patient mission.
Minimum Qualifications
- Specialized Diploma Registered Nurse
- 3 years Emergency and/or Critical Nursing.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, MS Outlook, and EMR applications.

- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

- CFRN - Certified Flight Registered Nurse BCEN - State of Pennsylvania
- Pre-Hospital RN - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
