Accredited as a Level IV Trauma Center
As a Level IV trauma center, LVH–Schuylkill has the resources immediately available to provide optimal care and reduce the likelihood of death or disability to injured patients. Accredited trauma centers must be continuously prepared to treat the most serious life-threatening and disabling injuries.
Emergency medicine for heart attack
If you are experiencing heart attack symptoms, including chest pain, shortness of breath or pain in your arms, neck, jaw or back – call 911.
Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute consistently ranks among the nation’s leaders in heart attack survival. Our MI Alert for Heart Attacks program saves lives and limits the amount of heart damage by educating area paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to diagnose heart attacks in the field.
If you’re suffering from a heart attack, paramedics will immediately begin treatment and call ahead to alert our emergency medicine providers of your arrival. If needed, you can be transferred to another hospital in Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) for a higher level of care.
LVH–Schuylkill is an American College of Cardiology accredited Chest Pain Center.
Emergency care for stroke
Every second counts when it comes to stroke. Fast, aggressive care minimizes brain damage by ensuring adequate blood flow to the brain. That’s why you should always remember BE FAST. This acronym will help you remember the signs of a stroke and that you should act quickly.
- Balance – Sudden loss of balance
- Eyes – Blurred vision in one or both eyes
- Face – Face drooping or looks uneven
- Arms – One arm becomes weak or numb
- Speech – Slurred speech or seems confused
- Time – If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
LVH–Schuylkill ER earned the designation as a Primary Stroke Center from The Joint Commission. For you, this means that we can provide rapid assessment and start stroke treatment right here. Our Stroke-Alert Program ensures stroke patients are:
- Assessed quickly
- Given a CT scan within 20 minutes or less
- Treated appropriately or transferred to a facility that can provide a higher level of care
Facilities designed for your emergency care
Our ER offers 21 treatment beds, including specifically designed cardiac and trauma beds, plus additional triage and behavioral health beds.
As part of LVHN, we have access to the full resources of LVHN as well as other tertiary facilities, including the LVHN Regional Burn Center.
Free parking is always available at the hospital’s parking garage. Also, there is metered street parking in the area.
