The EMT program is a 150-hour program that meets or exceeds the national curriculum standards as set forth by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  You will spend an approximately equal amount of time learning in the classroom and learning hands-on in skill stations and ride-alongs with local EMS agencies.

Some of the areas covered in the class that the successful student will be able to handle are:

  • Knowing the safe and proper way to care for someone with a head injury
  • Knowing the safe and proper way to care for someone with neck and spinal injuries
  • Caring for patients with bone, muscular and soft tissue injuries
  • Proper lifting and transporting of patients
  • An understanding of legal and ethical issues when providing care
  • Effectively managing blood loss
  • Caring for patients who have gone into shock
  • Caring for patients who suffer from diabetes
  • Administering state-approved medications such as epinephrine and naloxone
  • Providing CPR

The goal of the program is to produce motivated providers who are hire-eligible, meaning the prerequisites for working on an ambulance are met, such as having EVOC and HAZMAT, and have the basic knowledge on how to effectively treat and manage both medical and trauma patients and transport them to an appropriate facility.

Program tuition varies by course and covers the cost of textbooks, polo shirt to be worn in class and on ride-alongs, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and paid first attempt for the national registry test.
