Building strength, endurance and quality of life is vital to anyone recovering from a cardiac event and that’s why cardiac rehabilitation is so important. Now, you can receive this service closer to home as part of Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Carbon’s continued expansion of services.
Located at the Health Center at Carbon on the LVH–Carbon campus, 2226 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East, Suite 120, Lehighton, the goals of the cardiac rehabilitation program are to improve your strength, energy level and ability to function following a cardiac event, as well as to reduce the risk for future heart problems and to improve quality of life.
Cardiac rehabilitation is a physician-supervised program that incorporates exercise, education and counseling to help you enhance your recovery and return to an active community life. It is designed for people who have had a heart attack, heart transplant, heart failure, valve replacement, open-heart surgery, angioplasty, a stent implanted, experience chest discomfort with exertion or stress (stable angina), or other heart conditions.
During rehabilitation, you will be monitored by rehabilitation specialists through cardiac telemetry units. As strength and tolerance improve, the level of exercise increases. This will help you meet your health goals. The program also works to support and teach you to be more active and make important lifestyle changes to improve your overall wellness.
The benefits of cardiac rehabilitation are many and include:
- Decreased risk of death because of heart failure
- Improved fitness and strength
- Lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar
- Decreased risk for disability
- Reduction of symptoms including shortness of breath
- Enhanced quality of life and more
Participation in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program is based on clinician referral. For more information, visit LVHN.org/Carbon or call 484-224-9799. Hours by appointment on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
