At the start of the pandemic, LVHN President and CEO Brian Nester, DO, MBA, FACOEP, called LVHN’s health care professionals "heroes." Now, Dr. Nester reiterates his message by sharing quotes that describe what a hero is and describe what his colleagues do. Watch the video or read the transcript below.
I said it before and I’ll say it again: You, my LVHN colleagues, are heroes.
A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.
–Tom Hanks
When this crisis began, there were more questions than answers. It caused fear, concern and stress. You forged ahead together with a common mission to “heal, comfort and care.”
A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.
–Joseph Campbell
As an LVHN colleague, you were called to care. Your dedication to others is unwavering. Whether you’re at the bedside, or whether you’re working on site or remotely in support of those who provide care, you selflessly give everything you have.
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.
–Christopher Reeve
Now, racism, violence and unrest escalate our nation’s crisis. Yet you carry on. Your courageous and comforting care continues.
A hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people.
–Maya Angelou
You save lives. You reunite families. You shoulder the health burdens of entire communities. And as every day passes, you take us one step closer to winning this fight.
To each member of the LVHN family, thank you for being a hero.
