Double the Bond, Double the Care: Cailyn and Kylie Smith’s Twin Careers Together at LVHN
In celebration of National Twin Day, twin sisters Cailyn Smith, RN, and Kylie Smith, RN, reflect on their shared calling as nurses at Lehigh Valley Health Network
A journey rooted in teamwork and growth
Cailyn Smith, RN, and Kylie Smith, RN, registered nurses at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest, have always had each other’s backs—whether during late-night study sessions at the University of Scranton or as they transitioned into their nursing careers. “My sister has been my homework buddy since the beginning, up to studying for the NCLEX-RN together,” Kylie says. “We both push each other to reach our personal and career goals.”
That same dynamic carries over into their professional lives at LVHN, where teamwork and compassion are at the heart of everything they do. Both sisters joined the health network as nurse externs in 2023 before starting full-time roles as graduate nurses. Supported by LVHN’s nurse residency program, they’ve grown in confidence, skills and purpose.
“It’s like working with your best friend,” Kylie says. “This career can have challenging days, and it’s nice having your twin sister and best friend on the journey with you.”
Our shared calling: championing compassionate care
For Cailyn and Kylie, the moments that define their nursing careers are deeply rooted in meaningful connections with patients. “You never truly realize the impact you have on your patients and their families until you see them recover,” Cailyn says. Kylie adds that forming bonds, like learning about a patient’s grandkids or pets, enables genuine care and trust.
At LVHN, this patient-centered approach is reinforced through supportive mentors, strong communication and a shared calling to foster compassion across care teams.
Why LVHN was the right choice
Cailyn and Kylie were drawn to LVHN because it’s a workplace that promotes growth and development for nurses at every stage. “LVHN has endless possibilities, and I plan to keep learning here,” Cailyn says. The sisters credit the nurse residency program and their seasoned colleagues for helping them navigate the early days of their careers with confidence.
Their experience reflects LVHN’s culture of nurse-led innovation and teamwork, attributes that make it the perfect fit for nurses pursuing professional and personal fulfillment.
Looking ahead: Lifelong goals together
The Smith sisters see endless opportunities ahead. Kylie is considering furthering her nursing education, inspired by what she learns from patients and colleagues daily. Cailyn is focused on building her skills and growing alongside her team. For both, LVHN isn’t just a job; it’s a place to thrive, learn and build a future together.
“LVHN was our top choice because it’s more than a job – it’s a place we can grow for the rest of our careers,” says Cailyn.
