From EMTs to nurses: answering the call to care
Amy Ambrose, RN, and Dina Ambrose, RN, always shared a desire to help others. Their careers began as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) – an experience that ignited their passion to pursue nursing together. “It just happened naturally, and I’m grateful for it,” says Dina.
Today, Amy works on the transitional trauma unit, while Dina serves patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest. Though they work in different units, their bond remains unbreakable. “Starting this chapter with my sister has given me someone to lean on,” Dina shares.
Strength in support: growing together as nurses
At LVHN, teamwork and support aren’t just ideals – they’re everyday realities. The Ambrose sisters credit the nurse residency program and their preceptors for helping them build confidence in their roles. “The most impactful part of my journey so far has been gaining confidence with the guidance of amazing preceptors and colleagues,” Amy says.
This strong culture of communication and mentorship aligns perfectly with the Ambrose sisters’ goals: to grow as nurses and provide transformational care to patients.
Why LVHN: A workplace for growth and opportunity
Amy and Dina chose LVHN because it offers opportunities that align with their individual dreams. “I picked LVHN because of the wide variety of options it gives nurses,” says Amy. “It is a hire-to-retire choice and was the best option for my career goals.”
Dina, who hopes to work in pediatric oncology and become chemo-certified, agrees. “Working in a health network with many opportunities was very important to me,” she says. “I have goals I want to fulfill, and LVHN will help me get there.”
Transforming patient care with heart
For the Ambrose sisters, nursing is more than a profession – it’s a shared calling to care for patients during their most vulnerable moments. Amy hopes to build her experience and become a flight nurse in emergency services, while Dina focuses on earning her BSN and expanding her skills in pediatric oncology.
Both recognize that LVHN’s nursing culture, teamwork and growth makes it possible for them to thrive. “We have amazing teams that support us every day,” Dina says.
A place to grow, together
When asked if they’d recommend working with family, the Ambrose sisters’ answer is a resounding “yes.” “Having someone so close to you understand what goes on where you spend so much of your time is a blessing,” Dina says.
Amy sums it up best: “LVHN has been our top choice because it’s a place we can grow as nurses and individuals. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
