Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono and LVH–Hecktown Oaks are receiving top marks for protecting patients from preventable errors and harm in the hospital. Both hospitals earned an “A” safety grade from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2024.

“Colleagues who work at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) are deeply committed to safety and quality standards and this recognition reinforces why our community trusts us with their care,” says Matthew McCambridge, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Acute Care Quality for Jefferson Health, and Senior Vice President and Chief Quality, Patient Safety and Acute Care Continuum Officer, LVHN. “I am incredibly proud of the colleagues who work at LVH–Pocono and LVH–Hecktown Oaks for their contributions to receiving ‘A’ grades for safety from The Leapfrog Group.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization that evaluates hospitals based on 30 evidence-based patient safety measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections. Hospitals are also graded on the systems they have in place to prevent harm. The grading system is peer-reviewed.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for LVH–Pocono and LVH–Hecktown Oaks,” says Leah Binder, President and CEO, The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to patients and their families, and the whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to LVH–Pocono and LVH–Hecktown Oaks, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital rating system focused solely on evaluating preventable harm. Hospitals assessed receive an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade. Grades are updated twice annually, once in the spring and again in the fall.
