“By taking steps to manage type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, our patients can live better, healthier lives,” says Ronald Freudenberger, MD, Physician in Chief, Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute. “I am so proud of the colleagues who provide care and education to our patients about these potentially debilitating conditions. These colleagues are well-deserving of this recognition because they make the region a healthier place to live by providing exceptional lifesaving and preventive care.”
Nearly half of all adults in the U.S. have some form of cardiovascular disease, which can lead to heart attack, stroke or heart failure. High cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and uncontrolled blood pressure can increase the risk for serious disease, but timely diagnosis, research-based treatments and education can help better manage these conditions.
“Heart disease and stroke remain the leading causes of death for Americans, and addressing type 2 diabetes and blood pressure management are key for better cardiovascular health,”says Howard Haft, MD, volunteer, consultant, senior medical adviser, AHA. “The AHA is pleased to recognize LVHN for its commitment to managing patient risk factors related to high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.”
The AHA’s outpatient achievement award programs help ensure patients are receiving the latest evidence- and research-based care. As a participant in the blood pressure and type 2 diabetes programs, LVHN demonstrated its commitment to improving risk factor management for patients.
