Raising awareness
Key says that LVHN Comprehensive Health Services uses Transgender Day of Remembrance as a platform to bring visibility to transgender people and some of the issues they face, and to remind the transgender community that they have an ally in LVHN.
“We really want to help people feel accepted and not judged. When you come to LVHN, it’s a safe space where you can be your authentic self,” says Vickie Cunningham, program director, LVHN.
LVHN Comprehensive Health Services offer a full range of health care for transgender individuals, from preventive screenings to gender-affirming medical and surgical care. LVHN also has several experts who work specifically with the transgender community, including a board-certified transgendered specialist.
Honoring those gone too soon
In 2021, there were over 50 transgender individuals killed in an act of anti-transgender violence in the United States. Cunningham says that people who want to help raise awareness and education about the transgender community can help. “If you want to make a difference, help educate others and bring visibility to the transgendered community,” she says.
