Abbasi received his bachelor’s degree in cell biology and neuroscience from Rutgers University in 2004. He then achieved his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2008 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. His preliminary medicine internship was performed at Griffin Hospital in 2009, followed by physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at John F. Kennedy Rehabilitation Institute in New Jersey. In 2012, he joined what now is LVPG-Hazleton, practicing physiatry with a concentration in musculoskeletal and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Abbasi began his journey in leadership by serving as the regional clinical lead for Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute at Hazleton. He is a graduate of the fourth cohort of the LVPG Physician Leadership Academy in 2022 and is currently enrolled in the Master of Business Administration Program at Ball State University, Miller College of Business. He was the recipient of the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Master Clinician Award in 2022.
Abbasi is focused on provider engagement, communication and recognition. He continues to represent the Hazleton/Schuylkill regions on the LVHN Wellness Committee. “A key part of this role is understanding and advocating for the health care needs of the Hazleton and Schuylkill communities,” Abbasi says.
