This message is from Brian A. Nester, DO, MBA,
President and Chief Executive Officer, Lehigh Valley Health Network

HNL Lab Medicine, the multi-state medical testing leader, will see a change in leadership this fall.

HNL Lab Medicine President and Chief Executive Officer Matthew R. Sorrentino, Esq., will retire and be succeeded by Martin K. Till, currently Chair of the HNL Lab Medicine Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the LVHN Board of Trustees. To ensure a smooth transition, Matt’s retirement will be effective Oct. 15, 2021, and Martin will assume his new post starting Sept. 1.

HNL Lab Medicine has prospered under Matt’s leadership and commitment to excellence. Its reach and impact are impressive. With more than 60 locations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the lab currently generates more than 60 million clinical and anatomic pathology results each year. Under Matt’s leadership, HNL performed at an exceptional level during the COVID-19 pandemic, ably supporting LVHN’s testing needs under very difficult circumstances marked by supply problems in all phases of the lab industry.

Matt’s involvement with both HNL and LVHN goes back nearly 25 years. He played a key role in laying the foundation for our current growth and success. In addition to being involved in the founding of HNL and serving on its board for more than 20 years, he served as outside counsel for both organizations for almost 25 years and in recent years served as LVHN’s Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. He will remain a consultant to both HNL Lab Medicine and LVHN.

Martin’s experience with both LVHN and HNL Lab Medicine makes him a natural choice to be HNL’s next President and CEO. He’s been part of the LVHN board since 2004 and a member of the HNL board since 2013. Martin will resign both board positions and Kathy O’Brien, a member of the LVHN Board and Vice Chair of the HNL Board, will replace Martin as Board Chair of HNL.

Martin embodies the spirit, mission and vision that make both organizations great. When you couple that with the depth and breadth of his business experience, it’s clear HNL will be in very capable hands. Martin’s business experience includes media, real estate development and technology. He will bring an entrepreneurial outlook to the role that will help us continue HNL’s growth of services and volumes.

Please join me in wishing them well and thanking them for all they’ve done – and continue to do – for LVHN and HNL Lab Medicine.
