Carving pumpkins is a fun Halloween tradition that can turn scary if you’re not being careful. Here are some tips to avoid injury:

  • Pick a pumpkin that is firm with no soft spots and has a flat, front surface for carving.
  • Choose a location that is well lit and a work surface that’s sturdy.
  • Keep your hands and carving tools dry to avoid slipping.
  • For added safety, leave on the pumpkin top so you don’t put your hand inside the pumpkin and risk cutting it.
  • Work slowly and steadily – don’t rush the project.
  • Cut away from your body with the carving tool.
  • Use small, controlled motions.
