On Monday, May 6, at Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf, 101 golfers along with 27 sponsors, including PenTeleData, Service Electric Cablevision, Guldmann and HollisCobb, raised nearly $100,000 for the Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton during the second annual Hazleton Golf Classic.
The newly constructed Cancer Center opened in 2023 as part of Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute — bringing much-needed care, treatment and support services under one roof to the Greater Hazleton region. Building on the proceeds raised from last year’s tournament, this year’s fundraiser will continue the momentum by supporting a number of initiatives:
- A state-of-the-art radiation therapy program offering innovative technologies and treatments.
- An expanded infusion suite with private treatment rooms
- Access to clinical trials
- Cancer-related telemedicine services to reduce the need for travel, and
- A hematology oncology practice, centralizing appointments, treatment and support services at one convenient location.
This new facility provides access to quality cancer treatment near home, near loved ones and near a patient’s support network, something that is critically important in the fight against cancer. This center also gives patients access to all the services and programs of Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, a member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance, which has further enhanced our ability to provide state-of-the-art cancer treatments, technologies and clinical trials.
