Andrea Ward, DO
University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine
Andrea is originally from Sandusky, Ohio, where she lived until she moved to Kentucky for college. She attended a small, private all-women’s college where she studied equine physical therapy and majored in equine studies and biology and minored in chemistry with the goal of going to vet school. She worked for several vet clinics in central Kentucky. but spent most of her time at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital working as a night-shift charge nurse. She loved her job but also saw the limitations of veterinary medicine and began volunteering on the brain injury unit and in the stroke and spinal cord injury research lab in a human rehabilitation hospital in Lexington, Ky. She also began shadowing with an integrative medicine doctor along with several family medicine doctors, which helped shift her career goals. She decided to apply to medical school and chose to become a doctor because of her previous experience working with the equine musculoskeletal system and seeing the huge impact manual medicine can have on daily function and sports performance. She chose to stay in Kentucky and attend Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Ky. She loves being outdoors, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and training her search-and-rescue Doberman, Decibel, among many other things.
