Daniel M. Kraus , MD
I have been at Lehigh Valley Hospital in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for eight years. I was born in San Diego, California and grew up there and in Dallas, Texas. I went to Princeton University and graduated with a degree in Economics and a certificate in Near-Eastern Studies in 2000. Before medical school, I taught high school for one year at St. Paul’s School in London, England.
I attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and had no intention of being an obstetrician when I started there. As a result of some amazing role models and mentors, I knew that obstetrics was the right field for me. I did my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and my fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center.
I have always loved teaching and education, and made it a priority to get involved in resident education when I started my job here at LVHN. This is my fifth year as the Associate Program Director. My guiding educational principle is that human potential is limitless and that all of us are capable of anything we set out to do.
My original attraction to the area was the combination of my wife growing up in the area and an influential Duke gynecologist who had trained and worked at LVHN. Working and living here has thus far been fulfilling. I enjoy spending time with the residents and watching them grow and succeed. I am involved in OB simulation, formal Friday education, and our interviewing process. As a fellowship trained physician, I mentor those residents how are applying for fellowship after residency.
I have three children aged 12, 10, and 5, and my wife is a pediatrician at LVHN. When we are not at work, we enjoy spending time outside running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, or just about anything else that we can find to do in nature.
