Dr. Burmeister serves as an Associate Chief Physician Executive of Jefferson Health, President of Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG), Chair of Lehigh Valley Health Network’s (LVHN) Department of Emergency and Hospital Medicine, and Chief Medical Executive of the Acute Care Service Line at LVHN. He also serves on LVHN's Neighborhood Hospital Board of Managers and holds appointments as Professor, Department of Medical Education at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University.

As an Associate Chief Physician Executive of Jefferson Health and President of LVPG, Dr. Burmeister is responsible for driving performance in health network priorities, value and financial realms. He works closely with the entire LVPG leadership team to analyze economic, quality and value indicators to ensure service lines are operating effectively. Dr. Burmeister also supports provider recruitment and retention and works with health system leaders to ensure optimal availability of regional medical services.

In his role as Chair of the Department of Emergency and Hospital Medicine, Dr. Burmeister has direct and indirect oversight of approximately 400 clinicians, including physicians and advanced practice clinicians, who provide care in LVHN emergency departments and inpatient units. He is responsible for a large education and research infrastructure which includes an emergency medicine residency and various fellowship programs.

Dr. Burmeister is experienced in improving system efficiency through collaboration within emergency, inpatient and outpatient clinical operations. He is actively involved in multiple clinical quality improvement and strategic growth initiatives across the health network. He has also been instrumental in spearheading access initiatives in LVPG and enhancing the experience of our patients in our clinical entities.

Dr. Burmeister is a graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Bachelor of Science in biology. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and emergency medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia (Now Jefferson- Einstein) and completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Dr. Burmeister has been a part of LVHN since 2006.
