Luis Taveras, PhD, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Lehigh Valley Health Network

Luis Taveras, PhD, is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), a position he held since 2023. He provides leadership and oversight of information and clinical technology for LVHN, implementation and optimization of the Epic electronic health record system, and management of LVHN technology infrastructure and security.

Mr. Taveras has more than 40 years of management experience within information technology and health care organizations. His extensive experience in health care IT management has led to the creation of high-performance organizations that deliver significant value to all clinical, financial and administrative departments.

Prior to LVHN, Mr. Taveras was Founder and Chief Executive Officer for Health Data Synthesis Institute, a non-profit organization focused on transforming scientific research by encouraging and enabling collaboration. From 2017-2019, he was Commissioner and Chief Information Officer for the City of Buffalo, NY. In this role, he provided the vision, development and implementation of all IT initiatives that improved cost effectiveness and governmental service quality.

Mr. Taveras also served as Senior Vice President and CIO at Barnabas Health before becoming Senior Vice President, Office of Integration, at RWJ Barnabas Health following its merger with Robert Wood Johnson Health Systems. He also was Senior Vice President and CIO at Hartford Healthcare, and Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in New York City.

Mr. Taveras earned his PhD at the University of Sarasota, his MBA from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science from Wesleyan University. He has served on the faculty of Monmouth University, teaching graduate courses on business strategy, health care management and business ethics. He also served on the Board of Directors for the William G. Forbeck Cancer Research Foundation and United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. He and his wife, Beth, have three children and four grandchildren.
