Matthew R. Sorrentino, Esq., a member of the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Board of Trustees since 2024, is the retired President and CEO of HNL Lab Medicine, a $200+ million comprehensive diagnostic clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory. Prior to being appointed to that position, he served from 2018-2020 as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of LVHN, a multi-billion-dollar integrated delivery health care network. Immediately prior to joining LVHN, Mr. Sorrentino served as its primary outside legal counsel and was Chairman and Managing Partner of Norris Law, P.A., a firm of 140 lawyers with offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. During his tenure of leadership with the firm, it received numerous local and statewide awards as a top workplace.

During his first 10 years of practice, Mr. Sorrentino was a civil litigator in the state and federal courts where he tried numerous cases in the fields of general and professional negligence. He has argued before every level of the appellate courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals (3rd Cir.) and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Over the last 35 years, Mr. Sorrentino’s practice has concentrated in the corporate, business and transactional areas where he developed a special interest in the fields of nonprofit and health care law. He has taught business law on the undergraduate level (Muhlenberg College) and health care law at the graduate level (University of Scranton) and lectures extensively on business and health care legal topics. He is a Past-President of the Pennsylvania Society of Healthcare Attorneys, formerly Pennsylvania’s largest professional society of attorneys whose practices focus on the general health care field.

Mr. Sorrentino graduated from Muhlenberg College (1970) and Villanova University School of Law (1975). Upon graduation from law school, he was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and became a law clerk to the Honorable Richard D. Grifo of the Court of Common Please of Northampton County, Pennsylvania. In addition to serving as LVHN’s Chief Legal Officer, during his time in private practice, he has served in similar roles for The Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, the former Blue Mountain Health System and the Grandview Health System. Concurrently with his private practice, from 2005-2017, he served as Solicitor and Chief Legal Officer for the County of Lehigh through both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Mr. Sorrentino is active professionally in the community. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, Lehigh County and Northampton County Bar Associations and served for six years as Chairman of Hearing Committee 2.11 of the Disciplinary Hearing Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, a body that deliberates on matters of lawyer discipline. Mr. Sorrentino is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation, an $80+ million community foundation, and is past board chair of several community organizations, including the Da Vinci Discovery Center of Science and Technology, and Communities in School of the Lehigh Valley.
