Susan Mathieu, MD
Associate Program Director
Hello future resident! My name is Sue Mathieu and I am one of the Associate Program Directors for the Family Medicine Residency. I was a member of LVHN’s Family Medicine Residency Program's first class, graduating in 1999. I grew up in nearby Salisbury Township, earned my BS degree from Muhlenberg College, and my medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University). After graduating from residency, along with my husband, Jeff, I spent five years in a rural private practice in Honesdale, where I practiced a full scope of family medicine care including obstetrics, pediatrics, inpatient/ICU care, hospice, and nursing home care. It was my passion for teaching and desire to be closer to my family that brought me back to the Lehigh Valley. Being one of the associate program directors gives me the opportunity to work in curricular design, milestones evaluations and faculty development all of which bring me great joy. My clinical interests focus on obesity medicine in which I am a diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Choosing family medicine for me was all about having an impact on families as a whole through relationship centered care and continuity. I teach residents primarily at Valley Health Partners Family Health Center as well as with our Family Medicine Inpatient Service at Cedar Crest. When am not at work, I am usually found actively involved in my second job as a mother to Paige and Aidan, daughter of Jack, and wife to Jeff. My favorite activities include binging Hallmark movies, reading, and riding my Peloton.
