Susan Medalie, DO
Faculty, Walter and Irene Baran Schuylkill Family Medicine Residency Program
Hello, I’m Susan Medalie, DO, Core Faculty in Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Inpatient Pediatrics.
I grew up in Bloomsburg, about an hour north of Pottsville. I spent most of my life here in rural Pennsylvania except for a stint in West Virginia at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown for my Bachelor of Science in neuroscience. I am still actively involved with my undergrad as a member of both the Board of Associates and the Alumni Board. I did my residency and first several years of practice in Lebanon, Pa., and happily joined the residency program here in June 2022.
Within medicine, I have special focuses in gender-affirming care, women’s health and pediatrics, especially kids with complex medical needs and conditions. With these areas of focus, I am lucky to see patients at both LVPG Family Medicine–Schuylkill Medical Plaza and LVPG Obstetrics and Gynecology–Red Horse Road. I actively deliver babies with the OB-GYN group as well as care for newborns and practice pediatrics in the hospital. Providing that comprehensive care is incredibly important to me, especially in small communities such as ours.
Outside of work, I enjoy knitting and spending time with my two cats. I love to travel as much as possible, especially to UNESCO World Heritage sites around the world – where my travels have taken me to China, Morocco and throughout Europe and the United States. I enjoy spending time with my family in Colorado several times a year. I also love to read historical fiction and murder mysteries with a healthy mix of sci-fi, which also informs my television choices.
I am so grateful to be part of a small, new, rural residency program here near my hometown and look forward to watching this program grow for many years to come.
