Clinical Trial: Kidney and Renal Disease

Transformative Research In DiabEtic NephropaThy (The TRIDENT Trial)

Description

The purpose of this study is to gather information from a group of patients with diabetes who undergo a kidney biopsy. Little is known about the specific ways in which diabetes affects kidney function. The intent is to collect, process, and study kidney tissue and to harvest blood, urine and genetic materials so researchers can study how diabetes affects kidney function.

The study is expected to enroll a total of 300 people with diabetic kidney disease. Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) plans to recruit up to 20 patients in the study. Blood and urine samples and health information will be collected for at least the next 4 years. Each subject’s participation will last for at least 4 years with study visits scheduled at approximately 6 month intervals after the kidney biopsy.
