About

Philosophy of care

My approach to patient care is comprehensive and compassionate. I strive to view each patient as a whole, addressing not only their medical needs but also social and emotional concerns. I aim to treat every patient as I would my own family, fostering trust and empathy. I believe in empowering patients to take an active role in their care by providing clear information and engaging them in decision-making. Additionally, I prioritize setting expectations so patients feel informed and reassured, helping to alleviate fear or uncertainty during challenging times.

Why I entered medicine

I was introduced to the field of medicine by my mother, a family medicine physician, but I initially didn't plan to follow the same path. It wasn't until I took an anatomy class in college that I discovered my passion for the complexities of the human body, which led me to major in biology. During medical school, I became captivated by the intricacies of anatomy and saw surgery as a unique way to solve complex problems. Trauma and critical care drew me in because I thrive in fast-paced and unpredictable environment of trauma, but also enjoy the opportunity to balance the intensity of the operating room with the intellectual challenges of critical care. Leading and working within a team, which is essential for excellent patient care, has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

Community involvement

I have deep ties to the local community, having trained here at St. Luke's Health Network for my residency and returned after fellowship at University of North Carolina to build my career. I've had the privilege of teaching local high school students in various seminars about basic healthcare and medicine, were I aim to inspire the next generation to pursue medicine and bring their best to the field. I've also been involved in Stop the Bleed campaigns, helping to equip the community with life-saving skills. These experiences allow me to give back to the area that has become my home and continue fostering connections within the community.

Personal interests

Outside of work, I love traveling with my husband, Thad, exploring different culture and cuisines. I hope to be able to travel to all 7 continents and am currently at 4/7 - still a ways to go! Florence, Italy is one of my favorite destinations for its walkability, art, architecture, and food. At home, I enjoy cooking, particularly mastering classic dishes like beef Wellington and making handmade pasta. Sharing these creations with my family and friends makes it even more special.
