Philosophy of care

The simplest way to sum up my approach to care is that I treat each patient the way I’d want a member of my family to be treated. A major part of total joint replacement is working together with patients as a team. I focus on defining each patient’s goals and then devising a plan to help them function as fully as possible so they can return to the activities they love. Before we discuss surgery, I first try all conservative, non-operative modalities. Once those have been exhausted, I use the most modern surgical techniques, combined with tried-and-true pain management and rehabilitation approaches, to provide the best outcome possible.

Why I entered medicine

For me, medicine is my vocation; I don’t feel I could have been anything but an orthopedic surgeon. I was exposed to excellent mentors throughout my pre-medical and medical education who always put their patients first, heard them and walked through their treatments with them. My passion for orthopedic surgery was cemented when I began one-on-one work with patients during my clinical rotations in medical school. I strive to emulate my mentors every day and am humbled by the relationships I form with my patients.

Community involvement

I’m involved in social justice activities at my church, including service to homeless people. It’s an opportunity to connect with the community and help those in need. My other joy is mentoring undergraduates and medical students. It not only renews my own interest in medicine but also deepens my enthusiasm for orthopedic surgery. I consider it a privilege to help future generations of physicians, just as I was once helped.

Personal interests

I'm devoted to my family and friends and spend the majority of my free time with them enjoying the outdoors and attending sporting events. I’m an avid sports fan and continue to follow teams I grew up with back in Washington State – the University of Washington Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. As a newcomer to the Lehigh Valley, I also love checking out local sports here, not to mention exploring all the fantastic activities this area has to offer, especially the excellent food options.
