About
Philosophy of care
I focus on each client's expertise in their own health; listening and presence are crucial components of the care I provide. A trusting relationship between clinician and client creates the space to voice hopes and fears and to navigate decision-making within the context of an individual's goals. I am honored to do the work I do and to help people make choices that feel right to them.
Why I entered medicine
I trained as a doula (someone who provides non-medical support during events like pregnancy and labor) before becoming a nurse and then a women's health nurse practitioner and midwife. In the doula training, stories spilled from participants about their histories – pregnancy, birth, menses, menopause and sexual health. People needed a safe space to share their life experiences, and I knew I wanted to help create more opportunities to talk and teach about these topics. As soon as I attended a birth in a non-medical capacity, I knew I wanted to support the autonomy of birthing. Whether someone is coming for STI testing, birth control, a Pap smear or a prenatal visit, I hope they leave feeling heard and empowered.
Community involvement
I am a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and served as a puberty educator for adolescents.
Personal interests
I like writing, reading and mountain biking.
