About
Philosophy of care
My philosophy of care is that I must treat you as I would want to be treated. As a medical professional I must be empathetic, sympathetic, kind, knowledgeable and professional. I feel I must be accountable for every patient I work with. My beliefs, values and ethics are always there regarding the care and treatment of you and the others in my care.
Why I entered medicine
I entered the medical field because of my love of science and people. I always wanted to make a difference. I always loved the endless learning and the array of opportunities it offered me. I have job security and the ability to pick from among many specialties. Medicine satisfied my love of science and allowed me to connect to many people.
Community involvement
Community involvement is especially important to me. By always being involved, I have made many friends, bettered my community, met vital needs, raised money, raised concerns, obtained grants and cleaned neighborhoods. I have organized fundraisers and strengthened relationships with my own children by supporting all they did. I have worked with the East Mountain Residents Association, the Glenmaura Commons Homeowners Association, the Scranton Zoning Board, the Scranton High School Knight Rhythms, the Football Booster Club and the Cross Country Club. I have been involved with the PTA at all levels (elementary, middle and high schools) within the Scranton School District.
Personal interests
My personal interests come from my true love of learning. Being a parent, I have been able to further my interests because of my family. Together we have camped, hiked and traveled. We have explored, read and researched all we visited and saw. My family are all runners who have participated in many local and state races and marathons, cheering and supported each other while doing so. I also am a baker. As you can imagine, my family are the best food critics ever. Truly, my personal interests have made me who I am.

Dr. Schmaltz's Care Team
What is a Care Team?
Your care team is a group of caregivers in a medical practice, including your physician and advanced practice clinicians (APCs) such as physician assistants, nurse practitioners and specialized registered nurses. They work together, collaborate to address your unique needs and ensure you always get the best care at the right time. APCs receive advanced training and routinely work alongside your physician.
How we care for you
What our team does for you involves so much more than what I do in the operating room. There’s a lot that goes into a good outcome and it starts with a highly trained, specialized and compassionate care team that gets you the right treatment at the right time. Our mix of personalities and strengths really works well together. My physician assistants and I have worked together for years, and we partner with you every step of the way. It comes together like a symphony. We hope that’s music to your ears.
