Career goal: My goal is to work as a nephrologist.
“Being a fellow at LVHN means being prepared in your career so in the future you’re able to take care of your patients confidently and independently.”
LVHN’s Nephrology Residency program is different from other training programs because every member of the group is extremely helpful, and they take fellows under their wing and give you time to grow step by step. Our program director, Sharon Maynard, MD, always makes sure that I am getting a good education with patient experience. She always asks for feedback from fellows and provides guidance/mentorship to achieve our future goals, which means a lot to me as a fellow. Furthermore, the three weekends off each month in our busy routine allow us to focus on our personal lives.
A unique part of my fellowship training experience so far is I always feel very comfortable reaching out to attendings and asking questions. Furthermore, our senior fellows are wonderful and always available to help whenever needed.
A memory that will stick with me is when I placed the dialysis orders for the first patient I took care of as a fellow.
My one piece of advice is to choose a fellowship where you find a caring and friendly environment. Fellowship sometimes is stressful, and service becomes busy. I proudly say that in my program we have a culture where every attending and fellow cover each other whenever possible.
