SummaryInitiates and documents the patients' chief complaint, relevant medical history, and pertinent ocular findings. Performs testing and assists the provider with procedures, injections, and treatments. Educates patients regarding the administration of medications, pre and post-operative instructions.
Job Duties
- Prepares patients for physicians by doing initial visual screening exams including but not limited to Keratotomy, Corneal Topography, Visual Fields, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Biometry, and B-Scan Ultrasound.
- Administers Topical Eye Drops and Ointments upon written physician order and/or written protocol.
- Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments in exam/treatment room.
- Provides and records preliminary screening examinations per written procedures for physician review.
- Assists in training/development of clinical team members.
- Maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment per written procedures.
- Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies, educational materials, and medications are available for patient care.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED
- 2 years experience within an Ophthalmology practice
- COT - Certified Ophthalmic Medical Tech - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
Physical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
