SummaryHandles emergency calls and non-emergent calls from facilities and doctor's offices and makes the determination if the emergency requires an advanced life support or basic life support ambulance. If non-emergent call, determines if it requires wheelchair or stretcher or if is a transfer from hospital to hospital and requires an ambulance. Enters all patient demographic information into dispatch software and schedules calls accordingly. Dispatches appropriate level of service crew in order to get the appropriate help as quickly as possible.
Job Duties
- Maintains detailed records of thorough dispatching activities and unit assignments.
- Receives, processes, and disseminates calls from hospitals, care providers, and nursing facilities in an efficient manner to attain an appropriate and timely response.
- Utilizes computer software and dispatch equipment.
- Tracks times, location notes, transport information, and other information relayed by crews.
- Monitors status details of the mobile units sent to the dispatched location.
- Captures as much pertinent data as possible in a timely manner in order to direct the EMS or Paratransit units to the location with detailed information.
- Verifies address and callback information via interrogation to ensure precise location of caller.
- Supervises the direction of all the responding EMS or Paratransit units.
- Requests assistance from mutual aid, air ambulance providers, fire marshal, or others, as necessary.
- Anticipates and identifies problems and takes initiative to prevent or correct them.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED or
- Technical School Diploma Emergency Medical Technology
- Less than 1 year
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends, as necessary.
- Ability to obtain security clearance.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of how to utilize the CAD system.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ensures timely relay of information on the nature of call, location information, and additional instructions via radio.

- NREMT EMT-B Basic - State of Pennsylvania within 2 Years
- PA EMT-B Basic - State of Pennsylvania
Preferred Qualifications- Associate’s Degree Emergency Medical Technology
Physical DemandsLift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
