Traveling abroad with your children offers an exciting opportunity to broaden their horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime.
The pediatric travel clinic at LVPG Pediatric Infectious Diseases−1210 Cedar Crest, which is the only dedicated pediatric travel medicine clinic in eastern Pennsylvania, is here to support all your child’s travel-related health needs before and after your trip.
Our experts, who have completed fellowship training in infectious diseases and/or certification in travel medicine, provide in-depth travel health consultations and care specific to the country you are visiting and offer education to help you and your child prevent common travel-related illnesses.
Pre-travel immunizations and medications
We will review your child’s routine vaccine history and provide the following (depending on your travel destination):
- Yellow fever vaccines
- Japanese encephalitis vaccines
- Typhoid fever vaccines
- Routine childhood immunizations (depending on your child’s insurance coverage)
- Other vaccines for special circumstances
We may also recommend and prescribe medications to:
- Prevent malaria
- Treat traveler’s diarrhea
- Manage altitude and motion sickness
Travel education
Your family will be provided with information on common travel-related illnesses and any specific health risks associated with the country you are traveling to.
Common topics of discussion include:
- Insect bites
- Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and other insects, such as malaria, dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis
- Traveler’s diarrhea
- Animal bites
- Travel-related health problems, such as traffic accidents, altitude illness, motion sickness and jet lag
- Healthy travel for children with chronic diseases or immunosuppressive disorders

Care after you return home
If your child returns to the United States feeling sick after traveling abroad, or if they have recently immigrated here, we will evaluate, screen, diagnose and treat their condition.
If your family is adopting a child from another country, we can provide their required vaccines and testing.
Insurance coverage
Travel-related consultations and immunizations are often not covered by health insurance plans. We recommend verifying your coverage with your insurance provider before your child’s appointment.
Make an appointment
Request an appointment with the Pediatric Travel Clinic at least four to six weeks prior to your trip. Shorter notice visits may be possible, depending on appointment availability.
