Proper nutrition is a key component for athletes to perform their best. Knowing when and what to eat can have an incredible impact on athletic performance. Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute’s sports nutritionists create personalized nutrition plans for individuals and provide education to teams and the community.
Eating the right foods helps you maintain a desirable body weight, helps to keep the body nutritionally sound, and provides athletes with the energy needed to train daily. Along with physical conditioning and expert coaching, eating the right food is a key component to a well-rounded athlete.
What is sports nutrition?
Led by our team of licensed dietitians with a passion and specialty in sports nutrition, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute’s sports nutrition program provides athletes with:
- A personalized nutrition analysis and meal plan/pattern including the recommended amounts of calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates
- A list of specific foods for the athlete’s health goals, activity needs, age, size and food preferences
- Educational materials and various tools to help athletes in the pursuit of their specific health goals
The goal of the program is to educate athletes on healthy eating to support individual nutrient needs, how to choose foods to maximize energy and creating recipes to fit an athletic lifestyle.
