LVHN and Collegiate Wrestling Sisters Host Youth Girls Wrestling Clinic

On Saturday, Nov. 19, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute’s sports medicine team partnered with Kennedy and Korina Blades, sisters, and members of Arizona State University’s women’s wrestling team, to host a free girls wrestling clinic at Cedar Crest College.

More than 60 girls in sixth through 12th grades attended the clinic. The event was sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network’s (LVHN) Impact Athlete Program. The program connects local youth athletes with professional and collegiate athletes who serve as positive role models.

“Opportunities like this can potentially change a girl’s life and we are honored to help bring more attention and awareness to the sport of girls wrestling.” - Kennedy Blades

Steve Hultgren, Director, Sports Performance Initiatives, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, says LVHN was thrilled to host the event and support the rising sport.

“Wrestling has been a popular sport in the Lehigh Valley for generations, but up until recently, there was very little opportunity for women and girls to compete,” says Hultgren.  “More and more schools are introducing women’s wrestling programs. The Blades sisters are excellent role models for girls in our community who are interested and passionate about wrestling.”

Other LVHN Impact Athletes include Jahan Dotson, who is a wide receiver for the Washington Commanders, and University of Florida track and field star and 2022 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Champion (400 meters) Talitha Diggs.

“We hope the clinic helped inspire the next generation of young girl wrestlers,” says Korina Blades.

“Opportunities like this can potentially change a girl’s life and we are honored to help bring more attention and awareness to the sport of girls wrestling,” says Kennedy Blades.
