About

Philosophy of care

I genuinely believe many of the chronic illnesses we face are preventable, but also realize that such a philosophy can be hard to believe without strong education and advocacy within the doctor-patient relationship – a relationship built on patience, trust and compassion. As your primary care physician, it is my goal to serve as your teacher and advocate so you can live your best life even as you deal with life’s challenges. I have a special interest in the role of behavioral health and how our mind and body work together; when they are not in sync, it can make it very difficult to life a healthy life. I pride myself in being a motivating physician who stays up to date with emerging, evidence-based changes in medicine to provide you with the best health information for you and your loved ones. Ultimately, my goal is to help everyone achieve optimal physical and mental health, with an emphasis on preventative care.

Why I entered medicine

I took a circuitous route to medicine, spending time after college in the finance industry. When I realized I couldn't have the community impact I wanted, I changed course and entered medical school. Having work experience and then returning to school gave me so much insight into the kind of physician I wanted to be. My goal has always been to be a leader and cheerleader for my patients and help them achieve mind-body wellness, and being a part of the professional world before medicine helped me move toward this goal. Over time, I have found myself wearing many hats, as I train the emerging doctors coming up behind me and get involved in changing the way we learn medicine at the education level. I have found opportunities in medicine that fit my multitude of interests and allow me to not only take care of patients, but also change the way our younger doctors are emerging into the workforce.

Community involvement

I am involved with organizations working to increase gender equity within medicine. Much of my work is empowering women, especially women of color, and mentoring them.

Personal interests

I very much enjoy crafting, whether knitting, painting or helping my husband with his woodworking projects. I can often be found snuggling with our dog enjoying these hobbies. I also enjoy reading, hiking and traveling.
